About this deal

Bad Bedroom, Bad Life: After becoming a servant, Sara sleeps in a poorly heated attic, but despite her poor circumstances she dreams of better things there. Everyone Has Standards: Lavinia's friend Jessie goes along with giggling at Sara's fallen status and ill-fitting clothes, but even she can't agree with Sara being outright starved. Even when she's actually starving, Sara refuses to spend it, instead keeping it as a token to remember that someone was once kind to her. Even in her most challenging circumstances, Sara maintains her kindness and generosity, choosing to share the little she has with those less fortunate. This change in her fate remains unexplained until a surprising discovery reveals the truth behind her transformed life: the Indian gentleman is Mr.

The Reason You Suck" Speech: Miss Minchin's well-meaning but cowed sister Amelia finally snaps at the end of the novel and thoroughly tells her off. After 4 years at the school, during Sara's 12th birthday party, the owner found out that Sara's father had died and had lost all of his money. Life there was harsh and they were quite poor but the young Frances would entertain herself and her siblings with stories. The books featured on this site are aimed primarily at readers aged 13 or above and therefore you must be 13 years or over to sign up to our newsletter. Yet, despite having her own pony and carriage, private room and personal maid, Sara is never a snob to her fellow pupils. Alone in her attic, she makes friends with sparrows and a family of rats, and dreams of her room with all she needs in it. Forced to work from dawn until dusk as the school's unpaid servant, she looks over the rooftops from her damp attic room and dreams of a better life. Nevertheless, Sara keeps her heart and imagination strong and remembers to keep her manners and conduct like a little princess would.

Little Sara Crewe isn't really a princess, but she's got the most wonderful imagination that I know no one in real life can have. She befriends Ermengarde, the school dunce; Lottie, a four-year-old student given to tantrums; and Becky, the stunted scullery maid. with original music composed by a young girl, Torilinn Cwanek, at the Allen County Public Library Auditorium in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in February 2013, performing six shows. She is intelligent and good humoured with an infectious warmth that embraces the lowliest of her new acquaintances. I was hooked and have read most of her work,so I recommend Frances Hodgson Burnett to you as an author for every age range, and plots that never disappoint if you, like me, enjoy a story where good always triumphs over adversity.Molly Stewart's father was a famous film director who left his daughter in a posh upscale boarding school. But, on Saras birthday, disaster strucks and Sara is treated horribly by her vulgar matrons, Miss Minchin and Miss Amelia. Spoiled Sweet: Sara's a bit naive about the state of the world at first, but even before things get horribly awful she realizes that there are people less fortunate than she is and doesn't act like a Rich Bitch. Intelligent, imaginative and kind, Sara sees through flattery and remains unspoiled; she embraces the status of a 'princess' accorded by the other students, and lives up to it with her generosity. Sent to an English boarding school from her home in India, privileged Sara Crewe becomes a show pupil – a “little princess” with luxuries bestowed upon her because of her father’s wealth.

Death by Adaptation: When Sara's father is revealed to be alive, it's explained that his business partner died and was mistaken for him. It's because the roofs are connected that she meets the Indian servant next door one day, which leads to her being discovered and rescued. According to Burnett, she had been composing a play based on the story when she found out a lot of characters she had missed. Most of the students take their tone from Miss Minchin, but Sara is consoled by her few friends and uses her imagination to cope with her bleak existence.
