About this deal

Lewis draws on some fascinating primary documents which have only been recently revealed and uses these documents to create an incredibly detailed narrative of SAS missions during World War II. That said, there were a few violent combat incidents where he possibly overstepped the acceptable rules of war! When the fuses for their explosives failed, they adapted their tactics using ‘gangster style’ drive by shootings to attack enemy aircraft. Damien Lewis is the author of numerous books, which include his SAS series comprised of Bravo Three Zero: The SAS Patrol That Got Away, Great Escapes: Seven Incredible Escapes by Second World War Heroes, Band of Brothers: The Last Stand of the SAS and Their Hunt for the Nazi Killers, Shadow Raiders: The Ultra-Secret Mission That Changed the Course of WWII, Ghost Patrol: The Ultra-Secret Unit That Posed as Nazi Stormtroopers, Italian Job: The Secret Mission to Storm a Forbidden Nazi Fortress, and his latest SAS Brothers in Arms, a book based on letters, diary entries, mission reports, and interviews with surviving WWII SAS veterans and their families.

Am not sure about all the negative things said about this seller by other people,,, because my experience was completely different, totally positive. Lamentably the role of technology in the Second World War has received relatively little attention compared to major campaigns, particularly given the importance of technology in winning the war. They wanted this fearless war hero to lead the assault, piping Highland Laddie as he went – so leaving an indelible British signature to deter Nazi reprisals. Armed with knowledge earned first-hand in the torture chambers of the Gestapo, the race was on to bring to justice the Nazi war criminals who had murdered their brothers in arms.In fact, most of the men who volunteered for the SAS during the time this book covers, 1941-1943, were unlikely to thrive under normal military life. Over the preceding fifteen years Lewis had reported from many war, conflict and disaster zones – including Sudan, Sierra Leone, Eritrea, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Iraq, Syria, Burma, Afghanistan and the Balkans (see Author's Gallery). His widely-acclaimed WWII elite forces series includes The Nazi Hunters, SAS Ghost Patrol, SAS Italian Job/Churchill's Hellraisers and Churchill’s Secret Warriors, which is being developed as a movie series by Paramount Pictures. SAS Ghost Patrol is the explosive true story of the day in 1942 when the SAS donned Nazi uniforms to perpetrate the most audacious and daring mission of the war.

The example normally given to illustrate this was a raid on Tamet airfield, when Mayne shot a number of German pilots in their mess. Damien Lewis, bestselling author, describes the extraordinary bravery of Paddy Mayne and, it seems strange to say, the humanity of Mayne . Having blown to pieces scores of prize targets, Garstin’s patrol executed one of the most daring escapes of the war … only to fall victim to shocking betrayal. He is currently a fellow of the Winston Churchill Memorial Trust and the Royal Geographical Society. Hunted by thousands of crack German troops, at mission's end thirty-one SAS were listed as "missing - fate unknown".

A superbly written account of the early days of the SAS during the North African desert campaign in WW2. However, the author destroys this argument showing Mayne to be an erudite, self-effacing officer, who cared passionately about his men. It is a testament to the bravery and sacrifice of these unsung heroes and a gripping exploration of their crucial role in shaping the outcome of the war.

She was a close companion to men who became like a family to her, sharing in both the tragedies and joys they faced. Lightening fast- butcher and bolt- these warriors answered to no one but each other and they accomplished the incredible while battling with those to whom their unconventional style was an anathema. His previous publications include: 'Churchill’s Secret Warriors', 'Hunting The Nazi Bomb', 'SAS Band of Brothers' and 'SAS Great Escapes'. A rightfully proud regiment with an unrivalled esprit de corps, they were disavowed as unruly by top brass, unyieldingly vaunted by Churchill, and courageously loyal to the clandestine "butcher and bolt" raids that made their sacrifices-and their triumphs-legendary. Both sets of men worked spectacularly well together, forming bonds that could only be made in wartime. That fiction was followed up by Cobra Gold, an equally compelling tale of global drama and intrigue and shadowy betrayal. In a deniable, deep-cover operation backed by Winston Churchill himself, the ‘the Secret Hunters’ would expose Nazi Germany’s darkest crimes, doggedly tracking down those they most sought. It ends with the hunted becoming the hunters – a group of men intent on seeking out the Nazis responsible for their brethren’s deaths, on an ultra-deniable SAS mission to avenge a war crime.Lewis states that Mayne had an unconventional mind set, that was truly engendered to think the unthinkable. Major Robert Blair Mayne just reaches out of the pages, grabs your attention, he's a likable hero, then both Commander David Stirling, and Lt. Damien Lewis is a former war reporter and one of the nation's "twenty favourite authors" as declared by World Book Day.
