About this deal

First a word about bootlegs: A bootleg is a recording that is not commercially available to the public (such as a live concert recording never released by the label).

I believe its a first press, A0051, the etching on the run off has been scratched out and xxxx hen scratched in again ! It plays fine on a proper turntable but not on a Radiogram which is what most people had in 69, if they were lucky. Wondering if anyone might be able to help me figure out what my Led Zeppelin II album could be worth. The US pressings have the phrases “Do What Thou Wilt” and “So Mote Be It”, while the UK pressings have “Do What Thou Wilt” and “So Mote It Be” (note the wording switch from “So Mote Be It”).

So Mote Be It” and “Do What Thou Wilt”, which led to much apparently serious speculation as to whether Page, Plant, Bonham and Jones had sold their souls to the devil. In 2010 there was a re-issue of the turquoise-lettered version, supposedly limited to only 1000 copies. Binaural Records carries a wide assortment of classic rock artists including Pink Floyd, Eagles, Steely Dan, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and many more. It was originally released with the words Led Zeppelin in turquoise lettering on the sleeve - these can now command a four figure sum. Hi Tracey, I can’t find any reference to a 1971 official release on pink vinyl, (I looked on Discogs briefly), so it could be a pirated copy, although difficult to say without further information or pictures. The English rock band Led Zeppelin was active from 1968 to 1980, during which time they recorded eight studio albums. The Japanese pressing sounds about as good as the UK pressing but has quieter vinyl which allows the low level stuff to shine.I took it apart and wrapped electrical tape around the capstan flywheel to increase its diameter and make the speed more accurate.

NOTES: 2nd press with orange lettering with no superhype credits, grey stripe along the bottom of sleeve, second 8 scratched out on stamped matrix number. It seems Led Zep are an exception: they had such great success in the USA that this generally fairly reliable guideline doesn’t hold true – after the first album at least. HI, I inherited a pretty big vinyl collection a few years ago and am thinking of selling some , including the Led Zeppelins.

Anyway, to the point, Porky is just one of many iterations of dead-wax notations from the king of all mastering (imo) George Peckham, not George Piros as you’ve mentioned.

It comes off slightly more refined than this newer pressing, which brings up the bass level but compresses the mix in the process. For items that are dispatched using our standard service, we ask that you wait 14 days from the date of dispatch before reporting any items as undelivered. At the pressing plant Grant saw that, in the final stage of manufacturing, an acid cleansing bath for classical records was renewed every 10 days.I have an old Led Zeppelin II LP which has a discrepancy between the disk label and the album cover as to which tracks are on what side. I have a German pressing (ATL 40 031) which is very good, a first US pressing which is good but pretty worn, a Japanese pressing (P-10105A) which is excellent and the Classic Records 33RPM 200gm pressing. I’ve got I,ll, and lll plus physical graffiti and possibly a couple more (its taking a while to go through!
